The Best of the Breast from MilkiesThis is a sponsored post. All opinions and tiny boobs remain my own.

You may remember how the Milkies Milk-Saver was a total game changer during my first three months of breastfeeding. While nursing on one side, the Milk-Saver catches the milk that squirts out the other side, and during those first few months, that was a whole lot of milk that didn’t get wasted. While I no longer leak ounces upon ounces each day, I am still using my Milkies Softies Nursing Pads, particularly at night.

Milkies wanted me to introduce you to a few more of their products that help your baby get every last drop of breast milk: Milkies’ Nipple Nurture Balm, Milk Trays, Breast Milk Storage Bags and the aptly named Breast Pad Ever.

Like the Milk-Saver and Softies Nursing Pads, these four products are designed to make breastfeeding comfortable, practical and enjoyable. You make the milk, let Milkies take care of the rest!

Milkies Nipple Nurture Balm

Milkies Nipple Nurture Balm

Ouch. Particularly with my first baby, my nips were tender and cracked during our first few weeks of breast feeding. I know for some Mamas, the discomfort may continue longer as they troubleshoot latch issues. Milkies Nipple Nurture Balm “soothes, protects and heals sore and cracked nipples.” Anything that makes you more comfortable when breastfeeding baby is a must, so I’d recommend Nipple Nurture Balm in your hospital bag! Because this balm is made with organic ingredients and is free of artificial colours, animal products, preservatives and lanolin, you don’t need to wipe it away before the next nursing session. Check out the ingredients: Organic Marshmallow Root, Organic Self Heal, Organic Calendula, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Beeswax and Organic Shea Butter. It kind of sounds delicious, but don’t be fooled … you cannot make Rice Krispie Squares with marshmallow root!

Since I don’t need to use a nipple balm at the moment, I’ve actually been using my Nipple Nurture Balm on my sore, dry lips and my nose (which is a bit raw due to a cold).

Milkies Breast Milk Storage Bags

Milkies Breast Milk Storage Bag

As I’ve mentioned before, I donate my breast milk to the Northern Star Milk Bank. I’m not a prolific donor by any means, but since it’s extremely rare that I need to leave a bottle for Little Miss, if she skips a feed or is napping longer than usual, I pump as much as I can and save it for the milk bank.

My favourite thing about Milkies Breast Milk Storage Bags is that breast milk storage info is printed right on each and every bag. If I can’t remember how long I need to boil an egg, I definitely can’t remember how long I can leave breast milk on the counter, or in the fridge or freezer.

If you look closely at the top of the storage bags, you’ll notice they also have the message “Breast milk is a life saver. Learn more about milk banking at After talking about my own experiences as a milk donor, I discovered how many women didn’t know there was such a thing as donating breast milk. This little message just might encourage a couple of extra mamas to find out about how their excess milk could help another baby!

Milkies Breast Milk Storage Bags are durable and feature a leak-proof double zipper. They freeze flat so you can maximize your freezer space!

Milkies Milk Trays

My Milk in my Milkies Milk Trays

Since it’s unusual for Little Miss to need a bottle of pumped milk, Milkies Milk Trays are the perfect way for me to store small quantities just for her. Before using my Milk Trays, I used to grab the smallest frozen bag of milk from the freezer and hope she’d finish it. I hated coming home to 3 or 4 oz. of wasted milk! Now, when I pump for the milk bank, I pour off just an ounce or two (each section of the tray holds one ounce), and freeze it for the next time I need to go out. Milkies Milk Trays - Frozen milk

She’s also starting to drink from a sippy cup at meal time, so sometimes I’ll give her an ounce at lunch time.

Once your milk is frozen, you can pop your milksicles out and store them in a freezer bag, allowing you to stockpile lots and lots of one-ounce portions which you can easily combine depending on your needs. If you use breast milk in cereals or purees, you can even cut a milksicle in half or smaller to defrost just the right amount for your bowl!

Done breastfeeding? You can use the trays to make ice cubes that will actually fit in your water bottles!

Milkies Breast Pad Ever

Milkies Breast Pad Ever

I will never truly understand the plight of the large-breasted woman. While I spent a lot of time pumping my arms and chanting “I must, I must, I must increase my bust” in front of my mirror as a teenager, as a nursing Mom, I look down at my little ant hills with gratitude. Sure, we’ve seen a bit of growth since baby birthing, but I don’t even think I’m a B-cup. Milkies Breast Pad Ever is totally different from any nursing pad you’ve ever tried.

They’re contoured and lightly padded, so they hug your breasts and support them rather than lying flat and getting wrinkly under your shirt (I assume that’s what happens when you actually have any boobs … my nursing pads typically just stick out of my bras since they’re larger than my tiny cups!). That’s right, these are nursing pads that give you a lift. But not just a lift: these nursing pads are bulletproof leak protection.

The spongy, absorbent inner core is thickest beneath your nipple where your milk pools. Like a sponge, according to Milkies’ instructions, you can actually wring out your pads if you have a major let down, and continuing using them until you get home. The durable outer layer is waterproof and super smooth, and a soft bamboo rayon layer touches your skin.

mamanloupsden_img_4535.jpgI admit I am a bit skeptical about wringing out my nursing pads midday and continuing to use them. However, it does sound pretty practical. At home full time with the kidlets, it’s unusual for me to be in a situation where I wouldn’t just swap my soaked nursing pads for a dry pair. But when Cub was still nursing and I had returned to work part time, there were days when a pair of Breast Pad Evers would’ve been awesome! I remember being away from my nursling for a full twelve hours and feeling the milk flowing from my breasts at a work dinner party. Not only would the Breast Pad Evers have looked amazing under my blouse, but I wouldn’t have had to worry about a wet t-shirt competition with my unsuspecting colleagues.

Whereas the Breast Pad Evers make little ol’ me feel like Dolly Parton, I suspect that my larger-busted comrades would really appreciate the extra support and lift provided by these contoured and super-absorbent nursing pads!
